I have lived in, or just outside, Earlsdon Ward almost all my life and I work in a long established family business in neighbouring Spon End. I am married and I have two adult children who both attended Stivichall Primary School and Finham Park.
As a school governor for the past 23 years or so at Stivichall Primary, and as a Trustee of the Friends of Plas Dol y Moch, I have a passionate interest in the education of all our children. In particular, it is the all round education of young people that is important to me, not just academic results. I also regard a greater emphasis on the STEM subjects as very relevant to their future, in particular the problem solving and creativity aspects.
I also volunteer weekly for a local charity involved in Mental Health. From this, I see the importance of developing mental resilience in children and the part that schools can play in this. The role of Learning outside the Classroom has particular relevance here, particularly in developing character and a spirit of independence.
Whilst Earlsdon Ward can be seen by many as privileged, nevertheless there are many who are less fortunate for many reasons and, if elected, I would work hard on their behalf. I would also seek to ensure that Earlsdon gets its fair share of Council spending.
As we get closer to the Election, I will add more regarding what I see as important for the City as a whole.
