The Fight is On for Coventry's Future

Kevin Reacts to the Calling of a General Election on 6th May 2010

6th April 2010

Cllr Kevin Foster, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Coventry South, has reacted to the Prime Minister's statement this morning that a General Election will be held on 6th May 2010 by stating that the fight is on for the future of our city and tens of thousands of hard working Coventrians.

Kevin has pledged to put the needs of hard working Coventry families and the 11,000 people looking for work across the City at the heart of his campaign. He has cited a Conservative pledge to hep nearly 70,000 Coventry workers avoid Labours tax on jobs (the planned National Insurance Rise next year) and delivering more apprenticeships, as well as skills training, as key parts of his plan to secure recovery and get Coventry working again.

Kevin said: "After years of waiting Coventry's voters will finally get the chance to decide for themselves who they want running our country and representing them in Parliament. Nearly 70,000 workers across Coventry, now face a choice between being hit by Labour's planned rise in National Insurance or voting for change. Whilst those businesses looking to create jobs face a clear choice between a Labour Government that will penalise them for doing so or a Conservative one that will reward them for getting Coventrians back to work."

"The result in Coventry will be closer than it has been for many years and we have already seen evidence of Labour using scare tactics to frighten local voters, whilst neglecting to mention their previous broken promises on issues such as Student Tuition Fees. This election is not a debate about petty differences, it is a fight for the future of Coventry, one that I intend to take to the doorsteps across our great city."

He concluded: "Our city has not had a new MP for 18 years and our country needs a new government after 13 years. It's time for change and on 6th May 2010 Coventrians can vote for it."
