The Conservative Party has 27 of the 54 elected members on Coventry City Council and is the controlling party. The council is run on a Cabinet and Scrutiny system.
The Leader of the Council is Cllr Ken Taylor.
The Deputy Leader of the Council is Cllr Kevin Foster.
The cabinet is responsible for making decisions about how the council is run. The cabinet meets every two weeks and has 10 members.
The scrutiny co-ordination committee is responsible for co-ordinating the scrutiny function of the council.
Finance, Procurement and Value for Money, Community Cohesion and Equalities, Customer, Workforce and Legal Services, Audit Issues.
Children, Learning and Young People.
City Development, City Services, Climate Change, Sustainability and Housing.

In order to allow more time to be devoted to audit work and to allow Scrutiny Board 1 to concentrate on other areas of work within its remit a sub-group has been established to consider audit issues.
The Planning Committee meets every 3 weeks to determine planning applications.
The committee takes decisions on various licensing matters (e.g. alcohol, public entertainment, gambling, taxis and private hire) and on various public protection prosecutions brought by the City Council.
